What’s Better Than Avocado Toast?

More avocado toast!  Actually, it’s learning new ways to make upscale toast.

I giggled a bit when I heard about “hipster toast.” And then I made myself some sourdough toast with avocado, tomato and bacon. I was hooked. Avocado toast can be a quick, easy and super healthy breakfast in the morning.

Cooking Light offers twenty-four delightful “hipster toast” options that make me want to try different things. These can also double as a healthy snack like when you first come home from work and are starving.

Upscale toast is a great way to add in more fruits, vegetables, and healthy fat into your diet.

Here are sone of the toasts in the Cooking Light page. What other ideas spring to your mind?

  • Prosciutto, Fig, and Goat Cheese Toast
  • Avo-Tahini Toast
  • Cashew-Carrot Toast
  • Cucumber-Lox Toast
  • Pear-Prosciutto Toast
  • Cherry Pistachio Brie Toast

You can also update your toast with the season. So in the late summer, have plums. In the fall, apples and pears.

Avocado

Not all have avocado, obviously. But it’s such a healthy fruit that I want to spend more time on it. Also if you’re like me, you don’t eat the whole avocado in one go. So you need a good way of preserving it from turning to brown mush.

It helps to put some lemon juice on the cut surface. Then put the rest of the avocado into a small, resealable plastic bag and get as much air out as you can. It’s best to leave on the peel. And actually, if you can, leave in the pit.

If you get a few of them that are starting to turn brown, turn them into guacamole.

Nut Butters

Don’t limit yourself to peanut butter. Try cashew and almond butters as well. It’s a fun change that brings in new flavors as well as nutrients. As always, when you buy nut butter, make sure that the only ingredients are the nut and salt. You want to avoid items with added sugar. Some ripe fruit on top will be sweet enough.
